Energy Savings Tips

Around this time of year I am always getting asked the question, "how do I save on my gas bill and cut back on my utility usage?" Well the simplest answer is to have your home heating system cleaned and checked to make sure it is runninga t it's top effeciency. There are some other ways in which you can save on utilities, so here is a list of my top idea's for home utility savings.

1. Add insulation to your attic. This is the most cost effective way to make your home more energy effecient in my opinion.
2. Seal any leaky doors or windows. A tube of silicone caulk can do wonders.
3. Let the sun in, open the blinds on the south side of your home during the day and let the sun warm up your home in the winter months.
4. Close your damper on your fireplace when it is not in use, otherwise it is like having a 6-10" window open all the time in your house.
5. Only wash full loads of dishes and laundry.
6. upgrade your old ineffecient heating and cooling system, the heating and cooling of your home accounts for up to 60% of your total utility usage. So when you have high effeciency equipment installed your utility bills drop dramatically.

If we can help in any way or you have additional questions for me, please call me at 913-268-6700.
